I’m struggling with mindfulness

I subscribe to many YouTube channels and receive countless emails from gurus who claim that every gazillionaire is practising mindfulness for at least thirty minutes a day several times a day yet I struggle to sit down for five minutes to meditate (and full disclosure — I am not a gazillionaire).

This made me look at some other ways that were less about doing nothing and more about doing something a little different that might qualify as mindfulness meditation and help me build a routine.

Class

Being packed in a room with a dozen other people yet also managing to be alone with your thoughts is paradoxical to me. You can close your eyes but will always be tempted to open them to see how everybody else is doing.

However, I tried it and it worked because if you are ‘forced’ to meditate in a room for 20 minutes then you have to. You can leave but you don’t want to upset the energy of the room.

What stopped me continuing with the class? Cost. Paying good money to do something that I should really be able to do at home stopped me from pursuing this as a regular event.

Make it short

This is the best advice I have had for practising mindfulness meditation. Grab your mobile phone (making sure it is off or on silent), close your eyes…
